Week One: Work & Tropical Storms

So it's officially been one week that I've been in the New Bern/Jacksonville, NC area. I left Youngstown around 9:30pm back on July 11th and after many bathroom stops, 2 wrong turns, and 12 hours... I arrived at my new home!

My family helped me move, which I greatly appreciate! Without them this move would have been tuff in more ways than one.

I started at Rock105 (WXQR) on Monday, July 14th. The place is great. My co-workers are awesome and willing to help me while I learn the ropes. It's amazing that even though I'm not at WWIZ anymore that I have found the same personalites in the people down here vs. back home.... which is nice.

I started my on-air shift on Tuesday - an hour late, I'm supposed to be 2-7p, due to some issues with spots. I've been working 11-12 hour days, which is what I was doing in Youngstown. I've got some great ideas for the station and you will hear the difference in a few weeks. For those who want to listen... log on to www.CarolinasPureRock.com, click "Listen Live", select the 64 or 32 bit streams, and enjoy!

I was at the station on Saturday to get some odds 'n ends taken care of and ended up being there most of the day off and on. Tropical Storm Cristobal formed back on Thursday and was supposed to hit NC late Saturday/early Sunday. I had to keep updating the weather as new info was coming out about the storm... no complants though... we are a "public service" station as all radio is... plus I didn't have much to do anyways.

I am still learning the area. Went to Jacksonville for the first time on Friday for an event at the Party Zone, from there went to Hooligans Music Hall - which is a nice venue, can't wait to do some shows there.

So there's a quick update. I'll try to do one a week for my first couple weeks down here. Hit the new MySpace page (www.MySpace.com/StylesRadio) and check out some of the new pictures I've posted from my time down here, so far.

Hope all is well for you!

Rock On!

Shinedown "Call Me"

Shinedown "Call Me"

Wrap me in a bolt of lightning
Send me on my way still smiling
Maybe that's the way I should go,
Straight into the mouth of the unknown
I left the spare key on the table
Never really thought I'd be able to say
I merely visit on the weekends
I lost my whole life and a dear friend

I've said it so many times
I would change my ways
No, nevermind
God knows I've tried

[Chorus]
Call me a sinner, call me a saint
Tell me it's over I'll still love you the same
Call me your favorite, call me the worst
Tell me it's over I don't wan't you to hurt
It's all that I can say. So, I'll be on my way

I finally put it all together,
That nothing really lasts forever
I had to make a choice that was not mine,
I had to say goodbye for the last time
I kept my whole life in suitcase,
Never really stayed in one place
Maybe that's the way it should be,
You know I've lived my life like a gypsy

I've said it so many times
I would change my ways
No, nevermind
God knows I've tried

[Chorus]
Call me a sinner, call me a saint
Tell me it's over I'll still love you the same
Call me your favorite, call me the worst
Tell me it's over I don't wan't you to hurt
It's all that I can say. So, I'll be on my way

I'll always keep you inside, you healed my
Heart and my life... And you know I try.

[Chorus]
Call me a sinner, call me a saint
Tell me it's over I'll still love you the same
Call me your favorite, call me the worst
Tell me it's over I don't wan't you to hurt
It's all that I can say. So, I'll be on my way
So, I'll be on my way
So, I'll be on my way

It's Official When AllAcces Reports It...

It was fully official today. Both AllAccess and R&R reported my hire at Rock105. Read below...

From AllAccess:

"Styles Heads To WXQR"

NEXTMEDIA Active Rocker WXQR(ROCK105)/GREENVILLE, NC taps WES STYLES as new PD, replacing the exited DAVE TRIPP. STYLES was previously PD and afternoon guy at CUMULUS Active Rocker WWIZ/YOUNGSTOWN, OH.

From Radio & Records.com:

"Styles Takes WXQR PD Seat"

NextMedia active rock WXQR (Rock 105)/Greenville, N.C., has chosen Wes Styles to take over possession of the PD's office. Inbound after five years at Cumulus active rock WWIZ/Youngstown, Ohio, where he was PD/afternoon host, Styles is replacing Dave Tripp, who exited in May.

Styles' arrival means NextMedia Myrtle Beach, S.C., OM Mark McKinney, who had been overseeing WXQR since Tripp’s departure, will discontinue his weekly three-hour drive up scenic U.S. 17. McKinney says, ”I’ll miss the BBQ at Moore’s but I know we found the right guy in Wes to move forward at Rock 105.”

“I‘m very excited about this opportunity and look forward to helping this legendary rocker grow,” Styles says
